A Vigilant license plate / number plate reader (LPR / ANPR) in a Novato Police patrol car identified a stolen car that was being driven on Highway 101 early Saturday morning, leading to the arrest of its driver and passenger.

Lacey Paloma Cater, 22, of San Leandro, and Genaro Brandell Patterson, 46, of Sacramento, were arrested after being pulled over as they drove south on Highway 101 at Atherton Avenue.

Cater was booked at Marin County Jail on suspicion of driving with a suspended license. She also had an outstanding warrant for suspected prostitution. Patterson was booked on suspicion of car theft, police said.

The Vigilant system was recently installed on three patrol vehicles in Novato and has been effective in locating stolen vehicles in the city, officers said.
