Kyle Hoertsch knows how important technology can be to preventing and solving crimes for an officer in the field. He spent 22 years with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department where he held numerous assignments in the ranks of Deputy Sheriff, Sheriff’s Detective, Sheriff’s Sergeant and ultimately retired as a Detective Sergeant. Prior to his promotions, Kyle held assignments in corrections, patrol, fugitive apprehension, narcotics and seven years as a K9 Handler. As a sergeant, Kyle was assigned to corrections, the department’s communications center and then was selected as the task force commander for the region’s sex offender task force. During his last two years with the department, Kyle assisted with transitioning his agency to the Intelligence Lead Policing (ILP) model as the Intelligence Operations Group supervisor.

After the transition, Kyle moved to the department’s Technical Operations bureau where he was the department’s technology innovator and liaison to field services. Throughout his career Kyle has always championed new and emerging technology which lead to him to creating the department’s License Plate Reader and Facial Recognition Programs in 2012.
